Caramel Nut Bars

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 35 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans or 3/4 cup walnuts
  • 24 caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup margarine

Recipe

  • 1 ----crust-----.
  • 2 preheat oven to 350°.
  • 3 combine flour, sugar, and egg.
  • 4 cut in 1/2 cup margarine until crumbly.
  • 5 stir in nuts.
  • 6 reserve 2 cups of this crumb mixture.
  • 7 press remainder firmly on bottom of greased 9x13 inch pan.
  • 8 bake 15 minutes.
  • 9 -----filling----.
  • 10 meanwhile, in heavy saucepan, over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk and 1/4 cup margarine.
  • 11 pour over prepared crust and spread evenly.
  • 12 top with reserved crumb mixture.
  • 13 bake 20 minutes, or until bubbly.
  • 14 cool and cut into small bars.
  • 15 store loosely covered at room temperature.
