Buttermilk Brownies

Ingredients

  • brownie batter
  • 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Recipe

  • 1 in a saucepan, bring butter, cocoa and water to a boil. cool. meanwhile in a large mixing bowl combine the sugar, flour and salt.
  • 2 pour cocoa mixture over dry ingredients mix well. combine buttermilk and baking soda. add to cocoa mixture along with eggs and vanilla.
  • 3 mix until well combined.
  • 4 pour into greased and floured 15x10x1" baking pan (or 2 9x13" pans) bake at 350 for 20 min (or 400 for 15 min)
  • 5 for frosting: melt butter, cocoa and buttermilk. stir in sugar, vanilla and salt. spread over warm cake.
