Blue Ribbon Buttermilk Cinnamon Rolls

Total Time: 1 hr 37 mins Preparation Time: 1 hr 30 mins Cook Time: 7 mins

Ingredients

  • 2 (1/4 ounce) packages yeast
  • 2 1/4 cups lukewarm water
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 6 tablespoons dry buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • chopped nuts (optional)

Recipe

  • 1 dissolve yeast into lukewarm water.
  • 2 sift together flour, salt, soda, powdered buttermilk, and sugar.
  • 3 add half the flour mixture to the water and yeast mixture and beat well.
  • 4 beat in melted butter.
  • 5 add remaining flour mixture and mix lightly.
  • 6 turn upside down on a floured board leaving bowl on top to cover.
  • 7 let rise for 10 minutes.
  • 8 remove bowl and knead until smooth.
  • 9 cover with bowl again and let rise for 20 minutes.
  • 10 roll dough out into a rectangle.
  • 11 spread cream onto dough.
  • 12 sprinkle cinnamon, brown sugar, and chopped nuts.
  • 13 roll up and slice into 1 inch slices.
  • 14 preheat oven to 425.
  • 15 place in pan and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • 16 bake for 7-10 minutes.
  • 17 top with cream cheese or powdered sugar icing.
