Carob Oat Brownies

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon orange peel
  • 1 teaspoon lemon peel
  • 1 cup pitted chopped dates
  • 1/3 cup chatfield carob powder
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup wheat germ
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup milk

Recipe

  • 1 combine butter and egg and beat well. add vanilla, orange peel, lemon peel, dates and carob powder and combine thoroughly.
  • 2 in a separate bowl, stir together oats, flour, wheat germ, baking powder and three spices. combine the two mixes, add milk and beat until blended.
  • 3 spread batter in a 10x12 inch rimmed baking dish. sprinkle with carob chips or nuts. bake 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven. cool on rack. cut into squares.
