Baked Pears With Lemon Sauce

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 tablespoon arrowroot
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 grated lemons, zest of
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 6 fresh firm pears
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 -5 whole cloves

Recipe

  • 1 make lemon sauce ahead of time: dissolve arrowroot in a little milk; place in a saucepan with rest of milk and cinnamon stick.
  • 2 stir and cook over low heat, stirring, until slightly thickened.
  • 3 stir in lemon peel, lemon juice and 1/4 cup of the honey.
  • 4 remove from heat, remove and discard cinnamon stick, cover and place in refrigerator to chill.
  • 5 preheat oven to 350°f.
  • 6 halve and core pears; place in a glass baking dish.
  • 7 in a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup honey, water and cloves just to boiling point, but do not boil; pour over pears.
  • 8 bake until pears are fork-tender (time for this varies considerably depending on firmness of pears--really hard ones can take as much as an hour).
  • 9 remove and discard whole cloves.
  • 10 serve warm with chilled lemon sauce.
