Baked Pears With Lemon Sauce

Ingredients

- 1 tablespoon arrowroot
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 grated lemons, zest of
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup honey
- 6 fresh firm pears
- 1/2 cup water
- 4 -5 whole cloves
Recipe
- 1 make lemon sauce ahead of time: dissolve arrowroot in a little milk; place in a saucepan with rest of milk and cinnamon stick.
- 2 stir and cook over low heat, stirring, until slightly thickened.
- 3 stir in lemon peel, lemon juice and 1/4 cup of the honey.
- 4 remove from heat, remove and discard cinnamon stick, cover and place in refrigerator to chill.
- 5 preheat oven to 350°f.
- 6 halve and core pears; place in a glass baking dish.
- 7 in a small saucepan, bring 1/4 cup honey, water and cloves just to boiling point, but do not boil; pour over pears.
- 8 bake until pears are fork-tender (time for this varies considerably depending on firmness of pears--really hard ones can take as much as an hour).
- 9 remove and discard whole cloves.
- 10 serve warm with chilled lemon sauce.
