Caramel Pecan Bars

Total Time: 25 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 15 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups pecan halves
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup liquid honey
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup whipping cream

Recipe

  • 1 preheat oven to 350ºf (180ºc).
  • 2 in medium bowl, cream butter and sugar.
  • 3 beat in egg.
  • 4 stir in flour.
  • 5 press evenly in 10x15-inch (25x 40cm) jelly roll pan.
  • 6 bake for 10 minutes.
  • 7 remove from oven.
  • 8 spread pecans evenly over crust, placing them broken sided down.
  • 9 with a bit of planning in each bar when it is cut.
  • 10 in a large heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  • 11 stir in honey and brown sugar.
  • 12 cook, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves and mixture boils.
  • 13 continue boiling and stirring for 5 minutes or until mixture is a rich caramel colour.
  • 14 remove from heat.
  • 15 throughfuly blend in cream.
  • 16 pour over pecans.
  • 17 bake fifteen minutes.
  • 18 this can be turned into something akin to a pecan pie by doubling the nuts by 3 cups (750 ml).
