Caramel Toffee Squares

Total Time: 35 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 20 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, plus
  • 2 teaspoons butter or 2 teaspoons margarine
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Recipe

  • 1 bottom layer: crumble flour, sugar and 1/2 cup plus 2 teaspoons butter together.
  • 2 pack into ungreased 9x9-inch pan.
  • 3 bake in 350°f oven for 20 minutes.
  • 4 second layer: combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup and condensed milk in heavy pot.
  • 5 bring to boil over medium heat.
  • 6 boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly as it burns easily.
  • 7 remove from heat.
  • 8 beat with spoon slowly until it shows signs of thickening.
  • 9 pour over bottom layer.
  • 10 third layer: melt chocolate over hot water.
  • 11 pour over second layer.
  • 12 chill.
  • 13 cut into squares.
