Buttermilk Fruit Sherbet - Basic Recipe And Variations

Total Time: 45 mins Preparation Time: 15 mins Cook Time: 30 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups fruit puree
  • flavor enhancer, of choice
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups buttermilk (low fat ok)

Recipe

  • 1 combine all ingredients except buttermilk.
  • 2 chill for several hours.
  • 3 beat again until smooth.
  • 4 add buttermilk and beat again.
  • 5 stir freeze in an ice cream maker according to your manufacturer's directions.
  • 6 variations:.
  • 7 plum: one of my favorites! puree the fruit with the skins on. this adds flavor and color. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 2 tablespoons dark rum.
  • 8 peach: peel before pureeing. add one of the following: 1 teaspoon minced ginger, 1/2 teaspoon almond extract.
  • 9 blueberry: add 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • 10 you get the idea. be creative! make up your own combos!
